Climate change is the major global challenge for the coming century with social, economic and environmental costs expected to run into billions of euros over the coming decades. In meeting the challenges in mitigating and adapting to climate change governments and private businesses are increasingly seeking information to ensure that they are well positioned to avoid dangerous impacts of climate change and make the most of opportunities that are presented. Therefore, national and regional governments, insurance companies, environmental consultancies, non-governmental organisations and research institutes are increasingly seeking employees with a well developed understanding of climate change science, impacts and policy.
The MSc in Climate Change at NUI Maynooth, offered by the Department of Geography, is the only course of its type offered in Ireland. The MSc was established to provide graduates with the knowledge, skills and experience necessary to enable them to fill the skills gaps identified and to undertake research of both global and Irish related climate change science, impacts and policies.
