MA in Society and Space

The Department of Geography is collobarating on an exciting new Masters course with the National Institute of Regional and Spatial Analyses and the Department of Sociology here at NUI Maynnoth.

The aim of the MA in Society and Space is to provide graduates with the knowledge and skills necessary to undertake a critically-informed socio-spatial analysis of Irish society and economy.  The main objectives of the course are:

  1. To advance graduate students knowledge of contemporary theories of society and space and to enable them to apply them to understand society and economy and, in particular, to the Island of Ireland.
  2. To provide advanced training in social science research methods.
  3. To develop the capacity for undertaking independent research in the social sciences.
  4. To provide a professional education in the areas of balanced development, knowledge society and sustaining communities for those who need to be familiar with current theory and policy in Ireland and beyond.*

* The proposed programme will be delivered over the period September to August (with the summer to conduct the thesis).
